On getting rejected.

I spent all of my first semester at UNT just falling all over being an analyst for NTTV's SportsZone. It was a good time. I met a lot of good people, including my three best friends, Wil, Alec, and Jackson. However, following the semester Wil graduated, Jackson said he wouldn't be returning to the show, and Alec and I just figured that we would be fine waltzing into the second semester and inserting ourselves as familiar faces.

Alec and I are basically inseparable now, we have two classes together, and if it weren't for the waitlist, we'd probably be in 2400 together too. With this in mind, we sign up for our auditions right after each other, I'm first then him. For the first time in history I have some confidence and go to talk about my Astros and my pick for the Big Game come this Sunday. He is putting together his pick as well as discussing Luka and the Mavs.

At the kickoff just a few days earlier, we find ourselves at dinner with one other friend and the producer of the show. In a panic, I ask him "What are the odds I make the show?" "Well, we need someone to talk hockey. That's gonna be you this semester." He makes it seem like I'm almost guaranteed a spot and am just auditioning as a formality.

Saturday rolls around. It's call day. I sit, waiting for a phone call, when I get a text. It was something along the lines of "hey, you're not an analyst, but you can do behind the scenes stuff, if you want?" Never in my life have I been so flabbergasted by a lie. You told me I would make the show, but then tell me I'm only worthy of a behind the scene buffoonery. Now, trust me. I understand that behind the scene stuff is just as important, but also, they never get credit, and hardly ever get recognized, and I really don't like that kind of disrespect. I'm really not sure where I was going with this, but it really made me frustrated.

To Be Visionless

I was blessed with 20/15 vision. I'm the anomaly in my family, the only one without the need for glasses, but it would all go to waste if...
