On a sportsless spring, part 2.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post and it started with "While I'm not saying that we should bring sports back (I do believe the suspending/postponing was the obvious option, though I'm pressed about the idea of cancelling the spring sports in the NCAA) I do believe that this is going to be a dark period in many lives as a result. This is going to be a four-part series of how I've seen this impact each branch of the sporting world." However, while I didn't realize I was going to take so long to write my four-part series, things have changed, and so have my thoughts.

Since my first post on this subject, things have changed, everything was "freshly cancelled" at the time. A month in, the basketball players and most athletes that had it have now recovered and it almost feels normal to not have sports right now. For me, it feels like that weird time of year when there's only football because I don't watch football, so it doesn't hit me too often. At the same time, though, nothing makes sense anymore. Time? Out the window. Routine? Gone. So sports is just another thing on the list.

Maybe it won't be such a sportsless spring after all. The Major League Baseball commissioner and others have discussed a couple of different options in order to begin play again. Option one was have everyone play in Arizona, but wherever the players were to be, that area would always be quarantined. No families would be allowed, temperatures would be taken on the daily, players would practice social distancing in the stands. Now, personally, I'm not a fan of this, I think it's too far from the game that we all know and love, which leads me to option two. Option two would involve the teams playing in their respective training camps and creating two leagues from there for the year. In the Cactus League, you would have three divisions with five teams each and then the Grapefruit League would be built the exact same way. This could be interesting seeing as this would provide an easy introduction to the universal designated hitter, and many teams would play a variety of teams that they don't see annually. The final, and most recent option, has been a tri-state plan. Yet, many people are skeptical to this, as it was just a rumor and may not carry any weight to it.

Most recently Bundesliga seems like they might be able to come back by May, which means we might actually get live fútbol. If that happens and it looks like they come back successfully it might help other leagues start to reopen one by one. Though obviously nothing is certain, all we can do is hope that things return to normal sooner rather than later.

To Be Visionless

I was blessed with 20/15 vision. I'm the anomaly in my family, the only one without the need for glasses, but it would all go to waste if...
