On becoming a Blue Jays fan.

Updated: Jan 30, 2020

Back in 2013 Kevin Pillar made his first major league appearance for the Toronto Blue Jays. I was 12 during this season, and I really didn't care too much about baseball at the time. Yet, moving into the 2014 Major League Baseball season, I was convinced that joining my friends in fantasy baseball would be a great idea (at this point, I am forever grateful for this). We had our own snake draft leading up to the season and I drafted names I knew for the first few rounds...but then, it reached round 17 and I had no clue as to who was still left. So I went for Kevin Pillar because, well...no one knows why I drafted him, but it happened. I played through the season and ended up winning it all. And you're probably asking yourself "well, she's been rambling for a while, but what does Kevin Pillar have to do with the current situation?" We're getting there. Of all the men on my team (excluding the first four draft picks, because ESPN made those "undroppable"), he was the only one that I kept on the team.

Apparently, my love for Pillar was very obvious. That year for Christmas, my dad got me a Kevin Pillar jersey. We went to two games when the Blue Jays came to Houston. My dad didn't stop me from being a Blue Jays fan. They helped reignite the love of the game for me after I decided that the Astros were trash.

Now, it's not to say that I don't love the Astros, at all. I do. Up until this offseason, they were extremely lovable. However, the Blue Jays brought me back to baseball, and I feel like I need to be loyal to them even if Kevin Pillar isn't there anymore.
